Assam: Heroin worth Rs 11 to 12 crore seized in Kamrup
Guwahati, 2 July: Assam police arrested three drug peddlers and recovered drugs estimated to be valued between Rs. 11 and 12 in the Kamrup district of Assam.
According to reports, the district police started an operation on Saturday night based on specific information and recovered 700 grammes of heroin in a vehicle. In addition to this, three drug peddlers were arrested.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abdul Hai, Mohidul Islam and Rofikul Islam.
Reportedly, three couriers were driving a vehicle filled with drugs from Guwahati to Dhubri.
When the police squad stopped the car in the Palashbari area, they recovered 50 soap boxes inside, each containing ten packets of heroin weighing 700 grammes. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
Meanwhile, another 500 gm of heroin was seized from a SUV which met with an accident on June 25 in Hajo.
“Over 100 soap boxes of heroin, weighing 1.3 kg recovered in two separate incidents. A Manipur-based gang was involved in transporting the drugs consignment. During interrogation, the arrested accused confessed about a secret chamber in the vehicle,” officials stated.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Assam police for the significant drug bust in the Kamrup area.
