Assam: High Turnout and Confident Predictions Mark Bongaigaon Assembly By-Election

Bongaigaon — Voting in the Bongaigaon Assembly by-election saw a strong start as voters turned out in significant numbers, with Barpeta MP Phani Bhusan Choudhury casting his vote early in the day.

Representing the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) in alliance with the BJP, Choudhury voiced optimism for a decisive victory for his party’s candidate, who faces a strong challenge from the Congress.

Choudhury noted that while the Congress posed the primary competition, he was confident in voter turnout trends favoring the AGP. “The real contest is between our AGP candidate and the Congress. If turnout matches expectations, we’re looking at a win with a margin close to 40,000 votes,” he stated.

Adding to the high-profile nature of the race, Deeptimoyi Choudhury, AGP’s candidate and wife of MP Choudhury, also cast her vote. Her candidacy has drawn considerable attention, with the outcome potentially strengthening the AGP-BJP alliance’s foothold in the region.

Election officials reported steady activity at polling stations throughout the constituency, signaling a robust turnout as voters exercise their democratic right. Polling is expected to continue smoothly, with results anticipated to reflect significant support for the competing alliances.
