Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma Reassures Public on Covishield Safety, Urges Trust in Vaccine Efficacy
Guwahati, 3rd May: In a bid to allay concerns surrounding the safety of the Covishield vaccine, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reassured the public during a press briefing on May 3, following an election rally held on behalf of UPPL candidate Joyanta Basumatary.
Sarma emphasized the vaccine’s efficacy and dismissed oppositional claims, stating, “It is important to know that the Covishield vaccine has been thoroughly tested and has demonstrated minimal to no side effects.” He shared his personal experience of receiving the vaccine and remaining in good health.
Highlighting recent findings, Sarma pointed out the rare occurrence of adverse effects within six weeks of vaccination, emphasizing their rarity and reiterating the vaccine’s overall safety profile. “Rare instances of adverse effects have been observed, but they are extremely uncommon and should not deter individuals from receiving the vaccine,” Sarma emphasized.
“The benefits of vaccination far outweigh any potential risks, and it is imperative that we continue to prioritize public health by availing ourselves of this crucial tool in the fight against Covid-19,” Sarma concluded, urging the public to trust in the vaccine’s safety and contribute to the collective effort to combat the pandemic.
