Assam: Hindu Candidate Wins Panchayat Election in Muslim-Majority Ward, Exemplifying Communal Harmony
Guwahati: In a remarkable display of unity and trust, Mohitosh Bhattacharjee (Partha), a Hindu candidate representing the Communist Party of India (CPI), has triumphed in the Panchayat election for Ward No. 2 of the Narayanpur Gaon Panchayat in Sribhumi district. This victory is particularly noteworthy as the ward has a significant Muslim majority, with approximately 878 Muslim voters compared to only 8 Hindu voters out of a total electorate of 886.
The election saw Bhattacharjee pitted against Sultana Parbin, who was supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Defying the demographic odds, Bhattacharjee secured a decisive victory, garnering 411 votes while Parbin received 214 votes. This outcome is being celebrated across the region as a powerful affirmation of the strong communal harmony and secular values prevalent among the local populace.
Following his resounding win, Bhattacharjee expressed his deep gratitude to the Muslim community for their overwhelming support and the faith they placed in him. His victory stands as a shining example of how mutual respect and understanding can transcend religious lines in the democratic process.
