Assam: Hindu Organization Threatens Road Blockade Against Meghalaya Over Mawjymbuin Cave Prayer Ban

Guwahati, 7th August: The Assam-based Hindu organization Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) on August 6 announced plans for a road blockade against Meghalaya in response to the ban on Hindu prayers at the Mawjymbuin Cave. The cave, known for its natural stone formation resembling a ‘Shiva Linga,’ has been a site of religious significance for Hindu devotees.

The Mawsynram Dorbar Shnong’s ban, imposed last week, led to strong reactions from KSP. At a press conference held at the Guwahati Press Club, KSP President Satya Ranjan Borah demanded a response from Meghalaya’s state authorities. He warned of potential road blockades at key entry points into Meghalaya if the ban is not lifted.

“We need an immediate answer from the Meghalaya government,” Borah stated. “If no action is taken, we will initiate a protest that could involve blocking roads to Meghalaya from Assam.”

Borah emphasized that the ban affects Hindu devotees who visit the cave, especially during the sacred month of Shravana. He criticized the ban as an attempt by certain groups, allegedly influenced by Christian missionaries, to undermine Hindu practices. He also expressed frustration over perceived religious bias and urged the state government to reverse the decision.

In his remarks, Borah also drew parallels between the Mawjymbuin Cave and other prominent Hindu temples, questioning why the cave could not be treated similarly as a site of tourism and worship. He voiced concerns over the treatment of Hindus in Bangladesh, citing ongoing violence against the community and calling for intervention from Indian and international authorities.

Borah urged the Prime Minister of India and the Secretary General of the United Nations to address these issues promptly to prevent further escalation and ensure the protection of Hindu cultural and religious sites.
