Assam: Horrific Fire Claims Lives of 17 Cows in Karimganj; Police Investigate Allegations of Arson

Guwahati, 14th June: In a tragic incident, 17 cows perished in a fire that engulfed a cattleman’s house in Indurala village of Baghan GP, Patharkandi, Karimganj, Assam, during the early hours of Friday (June 14). Two cows sustained severe injuries in the blaze, which also destroyed property estimated at Rs 10 lakh.

Ramadhar Kairi, the owner, alleged that the fire was a deliberate act of revenge against him, demanding an inquiry by the deputy commissioner. His sons, Sujit and Suraj, managed to rescue the remaining cows from the shed.

Police responded to the scene promptly upon receiving information, and an investigation is currently underway. Initially attributed to electrical malfunction, suspicions of arson arose due to a strong smell of petrol detected at the site, indicating possible foul play.

This incident evokes memories of a similar tragedy in 2015 when 30 cows were burnt alive at Kairi’s sister’s house nearby.
