Assam: Hotel Sealed in Karimganj After Allegations of Serving Beef Instead of Chicken

Guwahati: The district administration has sealed a hotel in the Cheragi area of Karimganj district following serious allegations that staff served beef instead of chicken to customers.

The establishment in question is the Hindustan Hotel & Restaurant, which has faced significant backlash from the public due to the incident.

The controversy erupted when a young customer, identified as Kaison, stopped at the roadside hotel for a meal on his way to Ratabari.

Kaison ordered a chicken dish but, upon consuming it, suspected that the meat served was actually beef. Concerned about the potential breach of religious sentiments, Kaison promptly lodged a formal complaint at the Patharkandi police station.

In response to the complaint, local law enforcement initiated an investigation, which resulted in the detention of four individuals connected to the hotel.

Those detained include Alif Hussain, Riyaz Uddin, Selim Ahmed, and Hasan Ahmed, who are currently being interrogated to determine their involvement in the alleged misrepresentation of food items.

In light of the situation, the district administration took swift action to seal the hotel, preventing any further operations until the investigation is concluded.

The incident has raised alarm among the local community, leading to broader concerns about the authenticity and quality of food served in restaurants.

Authorities are now conducting a thorough probe to ascertain whether this incident is an isolated case or indicative of a larger malpractice within the hotel’s operations.
