Assam: Huge consignment of heroin seized in Kamrup district, 2 peddlers held

Guwahati, 28th November: A Special Task Force (STF) in Assam conducted a thorough search operation at Gauripur under Kamrup district on the morning of November 28 leading to the recovery of 1.8 kgs of heroin from a TATA DI vehicle with the registration number AS 25 EC 4464.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the STF team, headed by Additional STF Kalyan Pathak under the supervision of DIG Partha Mahanta, launched the search operation resulting in the successful recovery of the illicit substance from the identified vehicle.

Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle was initially intercepted at Saraighat.

However, upon receiving information about police presence at the checkpoint, the alleged peddlers fled towards Changsari with the vehicle.

To apprehend the fleeing suspects, the STF team took action by firing two rounds, leading to the immobilization of the vehicle. Subsequent to this, a meticulous search revealed a hidden compartment within the vehicle, exposing the concealed 1.8 kgs of heroin. The entire contraband was duly seized.

The two individuals involved in the incident have been identified as Sonu Ali from Garigaon and Arjun Basfore from Jalukbari. Legal proceedings against these alleged peddlers have been initiated as part of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking in the region.
