Assam: IIT Delhi Professor Honored with Prestigious Indian National Geospatial Award 2024

New Delhi: Dr. Manabendra Saharia, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), has been bestowed with the prestigious Indian National Geospatial Award 2024 by the Indian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS).

The award recognizes Dr. Saharia’s exceptional contributions to the fields of remote sensing and geospatial applications, particularly in the areas of terrestrial hydrology, water resources engineering, hydrometeorology, and data-driven modeling.

The award ceremony will take place during the inaugural session of the ISRS-ISG National Symposium & Annual Convention, scheduled for December 11-13, 2024, in Lucknow. The event, themed “Remote Sensing for Sustainable Future: A Road Map Towards Viksit Bharat,” will be jointly organized by the ISRS Lucknow Chapter, the Remote Sensing Application Centre (RSAC), and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University.

Expressing his gratitude on X, Dr. Saharia shared his journey, highlighting the significance of the award, particularly given his early association with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He noted that his first project at IIT Delhi was funded by the Space Technology Cell (STC) and that his team had recently transferred the first version of the Indian Land Data Assimilation System (ILDAS) to ISRO’s Space Applications Centre (SAC).
