Assam: Illegal Timber Mill Busted in Dhubri as Forest Department Intensifies Crackdown on Smuggling

Guwahati: In a decisive move against illegal logging operations, the Dhubri Forest Department carried out a successful raid on Thursday, dismantling an unauthorized timber mill operating in the Piyanjbari area, including the localities of Top Para and Jhowpara. Acting on directives from the Dhubri Forest Division, the operation was led by Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Chakrapani Roy, who coordinated a team of officials to target the illegal facility.

During the raid, forest personnel seized a variety of heavy machinery used for timber processing, along with a significant quantity of wooden poles suspected to have been harvested unlawfully. The seized items indicate a well-organized operation aimed at profiting from the illegal exploitation of forest resources.

Although the team managed to secure the premises and confiscate the materials, several individuals believed to be key players in the smuggling ring fled the scene before they could be apprehended. Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to identify and track down the absconding suspects, with the aim of dismantling the broader network involved in the illegal trade.

Officials emphasized that the crackdown is part of an ongoing campaign to safeguard Assam’s forests from unchecked deforestation and ecological damage. The department reiterated its commitment to preserving biodiversity and holding accountable those who violate forest conservation laws.
