Assam: In-charge principal of Food Craft Institute Apprehended in Sting Operation by Anti-Corruption Directorate in Samaguri
Guwahati, 19th October: In a decisive move against corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, successfully apprehended Jalen Baishya, the In-charge Principal of the Food Craft Institute in Assam’s Samaguri. Baishya was caught in a sting operation after allegedly demanding a bribe from a complainant.
The complaint, filed on October 19, 2023, outlined how Baishya had initially sought a bribe of Rs. 2,500 to expedite payments related to the supply of vegetables and grocery items to the Food Craft Institute. Subsequently, he lowered the demand to Rs. 2,000.
Unwilling to give in to extortion, the complainant reported the matter to the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, which promptly took legal action.
In a carefully planned operation on the same day, the Directorate’s team laid a trap in Samaguri. As a result, Jalen Baishya was caught red-handed accepting the demanded bribe of Rs. 2,000 at Samaguri Tiniali, under the jurisdiction of the Samaguri Police Station in Nagaon district. The bribe money was seized from his possession.
Following this successful operation and the collection of compelling evidence, Jalen Baishya was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam.
An official case was registered on October 19, 2023, under the title ACB P.S. Case No. 86/2023, and is being pursued under section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
