Assam: Indian Air Force Rescues 13 Fishermen Stranded on Brahmaputra Islet

Guwahati, 2nd July: Thirteen fishermen, who had been stranded on a riverine islet in the Brahmaputra River near Dibrugarh district for three days, were rescued this morning by an Indian Air Force helicopter. The challenging conditions, including rising waters and strong currents, had prevented the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) from reaching them earlier.

The fishermen, from eastern Assam, had been battling these perilous conditions since Friday. The local SDRF teams made several attempts to rescue them but were repeatedly hindered by high tides and the swift currents caused by monsoon rains.

On July 1, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured the public that the flood situation in Dibrugarh was being closely monitored, highlighting the state’s efforts to rescue the stranded fishermen. His proactive approach, combined with the coordinated rescue operation by the Indian Air Force and SDRF, emphasizes the state’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its residents during this severe flooding crisis.
