Assam: Indian Army Champions Environmental Conservation on World Environment Day in Tinsukia District
Guwahati, 5th June: In a strong demonstration of environmental stewardship and community involvement, the Indian Army organized a series of impactful events across Tinsukia district to mark World Environment Day on 5th June 2024. These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and sustainability among local communities and schoolchildren.
Comprehensive activities were conducted at various locations, including Kordoiguri Higher Secondary School in Diasajan and collaborative events with Gorkha Mahila Samiti at Lekhapani, involving the local community of Tinsukia. The events saw the participation of around 200 students, teaching staff, and locals, making it a significant community engagement effort.
A key highlight of the event was a lecture themed ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,’ which offered in-depth insights into critical environmental issues such as deforestation, global warming, and waste management. Emphasizing the three R’s—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—the lecture had a profound impact on attendees, inspiring them to take proactive steps toward environmental conservation.
The event concluded with the plantation of 500 tree saplings and a cleanliness drive, further reinforcing the commitment to environmental health and sustainability. These activities underscore the Indian Army’s dedication to promoting environmental sustainability and community welfare.
