Assam: Infamous Dacoit Injured in Dramatic Police Encounter in Bokakhat
Guwahati, 21st June: In a dramatic police encounter early this morning in Agratali, Bokakhat, notorious dacoit Pallav Basumatary was injured. Basumatary, a member of a three-man gang linked to multiple robberies, was shot during the operation and is now receiving treatment at the Bokakhat sub-divisional hospital.
The incident began in the early hours when the heavily armed gang opened fire on the police. In the ensuing gunfight, police successfully apprehended two other gang members, Babu Saikia and Gautam Dal. Authorities seized an Italian 9mm pistol and four live bullets, indicating the gang’s preparedness for further crimes.
The gang is suspected of involvement in numerous car and bike thefts, underscoring the significant threat they posed to the community. The police operation aimed to dismantle their criminal network and restore safety in the region.
While Basumatary is being treated for his injuries, investigations into the gang’s full range of criminal activities are ongoing. The swift and decisive action by the police has been widely praised, with local residents expressing relief at the capture of these dangerous criminals.
