Assam: Infant Dies After Being Thrown into Water Body in Nalbari

Guwahati: A pall of sorrow has descended upon Jowardi village in Assam’s Nalbari district following the tragic death of a six-month-old infant. The child was allegedly thrown into a local water body by his mother, Gitanjali Barman.

The accused, Gitanjali Barman, is the wife of Nripen Barman, a daily wage laborer. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving residents grappling with disbelief and profound sadness.

While the precise reasons behind this devastating act are yet to be ascertained, initial reports indicate that the family was facing severe economic hardship. Sources within the police department have also hinted at the possibility of domestic disputes playing a role, though official confirmation is pending as the investigation progresses.

Upon receiving news of the incident, the Belsor police promptly arrived at the scene. They have since launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The lifeless body of the infant has been recovered. Authorities are expected to conduct detailed inquiries, which may include a psychological assessment of the mother, as well as the recording of statements from family members and neighbours in their efforts to uncover the truth behind this heartbreaking event.
