Assam IPS Officer Anand Mishra’s Resignation Yet to Be Accepted by State Government

Guwahati, 16th January: The Assam government has not yet accepted the resignation of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Anand Mishra, who served as the Superintendent of Police in Lakhimpur. Mishra, a member of the Assam-Meghalaya Cadre (2011 RR Batch), submitted his unconditional resignation from the IPS, effective January 16, 2024.

In a letter to the chief secretary, SP Mishra stated, “This is to submit my unconditional resignation from the IPS to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realize through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS.”

Earlier, as per a governor’s notification, SP Anand Mishra and SP (Border-II) APS Randeep Kumar Baruah were placed at the disposal of the Government of Manipur to take charge of the Special Investigation Teams (SITs) investigating incidents in Manipur.

Following Mishra’s resignation, Debasish Sarma has been approved as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) for Lakhimpur. Debasish Sarma, the former commandant of the 13th APBN in Leelabari, Assam, will assume the role.

IPS officer Anand Mishra has been designated to police headquarters until he clarifies the reason behind his resignation. Being assigned to the police headquarters implies administrative leave until a decision or inquiry is pending. The state government’s stance on accepting Mishra’s resignation remains pending.
