Assam: Jaginga-Lampu NH-27 Section Closed Due to Major Landslide

Guwahati: A significant landslide, coupled with persistent slope movement, has led to the complete closure of the Jaginga-Lampu stretch of National Highway 27, effectively severing the critical link between Haflong and Silchar. The Deputy Commissioner swiftly escalated the matter to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) through an urgent communication, seeking immediate technical and logistical support.

The perilous situation, which unfolded earlier today, has left the highway segment highly dangerous for all forms of traffic, with continuous rockfalls and an unstable terrain presenting serious risks to both life and property. In a decisive move to safeguard public safety, vehicular traffic has been suspended along this vital corridor, enforced under the provisions of Section 34(c) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

District officials have confirmed that while efforts are in motion to clear the extensive debris and re-establish connectivity, the prevailing conditions remain exceptionally treacherous. The public has been strongly advised to defer all travel plans through the affected zone and to rely exclusively on official advisories for updates. Authorities have also cautioned that no viable or safe alternative routes are presently available, primarily due to ongoing heavy rainfall and the heightened risk of further slope collapses.

In response to the unfolding crisis, the District Commissioner has formally urged the ASDMA to initiate urgent coordination with both the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Railway Authority. The objective is to deploy expert teams promptly for a comprehensive site assessment and to commence immediate slope stabilization works. The primary goal is to avert further geological instability and facilitate the safe resumption of traffic movement with the utmost speed.

The district administration has underscored the critical necessity for prompt action to protect human lives and to secure this crucial transport infrastructure from further damage and deterioration.
