Assam: Jogighopa Multi-Modal Logistics Hub to Transform Northeast Trade, Says NFR GM

Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway’s General Manager, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (MMLP) at Jogighopa, a key infrastructure project under the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal Master Plan. Strategically located in the Rangiya Division, the MMLP is set to become a major logistics hub, enhancing connectivity across railways and inland waterways to facilitate seamless freight movement in Northeast India.

During the visit, Shrivastava closely assessed critical railway construction works, including track laying, yard development, and connectivity enhancements. According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, the project is progressing as per schedule, with a focus on expediting completion. Designed to streamline trade and transportation, the terminal will be equipped with state-of-the-art warehouses, cold storage facilities, customs clearance services, and multiple rail sidings to support high-volume freight movement.

Positioned 91 km from Gelephu (Bhutan), 108 km from the Bangladesh border, and 147 km from Guwahati, the Jogighopa MMLP will serve as a vital gateway for cross-border trade with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. The railway infrastructure component includes the construction of three rail lines, with provisions for future expansion to five lines. Once fully operational, the terminal is expected to handle 50 rakes per month, facilitating the transport of essential commodities such as auto components, fertilizers, food grains, steel, coal, clinker, and stone chips.

The recently inaugurated Inland Waterways component has already begun operations, enabling efficient cargo movement to Bangladesh. The project is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and drive industrial growth in the region. Additionally, the MMLP is poised to play a crucial role in supporting local industries and strengthening India’s Act East Policy by enhancing trade links with neighboring countries.

With work progressing at an accelerated pace, the Jogighopa MMLP is set to revolutionize freight logistics in Northeast India. Once completed, it will stand as a landmark achievement in railway infrastructure, reinforcing NFR’s commitment to boosting economic growth and regional connectivity.
