Guwahati: In a significant collaborative effort, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and Bijni Police successfully apprehended an individual in possession of a homemade firearm from Anand Bazar, nestled in 2 No. Daranga under the Bijni subdivision of Assam’s Chirang district, on Tuesday. The swift action underscores the continuous vigilance of security forces in maintaining peace and order in the region.
The arrested man has been identified as 42-year-old Sujit Das. His apprehension came after a meticulously planned and executed raid by personnel from the 15th Battalion SSB, operating out of the Dhola camp in Kajalgaon, working in tandem with local police authorities. The precision of the operation highlights the growing synergy between different law enforcement agencies.
During the subsequent search of Das’s residence, the joint team recovered not only the illicitly manufactured firearm but also 16 beer bottles and 25 bottles of liquor. This discovery has led authorities to broaden their investigation into potential other illicit activities.
Das, who reportedly runs a small shop, was taken into custody immediately at the scene. While the firearm has been seized, authorities are currently probing the precise motive behind his possession of the weapon, as he has yet to offer any credible explanation for it. The investigation is ongoing to ascertain all relevant details and any potential wider implications.
