Guwahati: A coordinated effort between the Assam Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) has led to a significant success in curbing trans-border crime, with the apprehension of an Indian smuggler during a joint operation conducted along the sensitive Indo-Bangladesh border region.
The collaborative operation culminated in the recovery of counterfeit Indian currency notes amounting to a substantial Rs 95,000 from the possession of the arrested individual, dealing a blow to potential illicit financial activities.
Spearheaded by sub-inspector Rimpi Das of the Assam Police, along with her dedicated team, and the 66 Battalion of the BSF, the operation successfully led to the arrest of the accused, identified as Masiyar Rahman, a resident hailing from Ghewmari village situated in the Dhubri district of Assam.
According to official sources, the successful apprehension occurred in a border area that has gained notoriety for its prevalence of smuggling activities. Initial investigations conducted at the scene strongly suggest that the recovered counterfeit currency was intended for circulation within the Indian economy, posing a threat to its stability. The seized fake notes were reportedly of high quality, prompting serious concerns among authorities regarding potential links to sophisticated cross-border counterfeit networks operating in the region.
A senior official representing the Border Security Force emphasized the unwavering commitment of the force to its core mandate of safeguarding the nation’s borders. The official further asserted the BSF’s dedication to proactively preventing any attempts aimed at destabilizing the Indian economy through the illicit introduction and circulation of counterfeit currency.
Presently, the Assam Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation to delve deeper into the intricacies of the smuggling network busted during the joint operation. Their efforts are focused on uncovering further leads that could potentially reveal the true extent of the network’s operations and identify any possible international connections involved in this illicit activity.
