Assam: Jorhat-Majuli ferry services suspended for indefinite time

Guwahati: Following the heavy downpour and rise in the water level of Brahmaputra River, the ferry services between Jorhat and Majuli have been suspended for an indefinite period from Sunday.

On May 15, the district administration of Majuli informed about the decision to suspend the ferry services between Nimati-kamalabari and other ferry services in view of the increase in water level of Brahmaputra.

The district administration of Majuli has further informed that it has suspended the services till further issue of an order.

It may be mentioned that the surge in water level is primarily owing to the continuous rains that have engulfed the whole state of Assam.

Artificial floods produced by heavy rains harmed roughly 25,000 people in six areas this year.

Three people including a lady were killed in landslides in the Haflong area of Dima Hasao district on Saturday.

Following the continuous rains, the water levels in various rivers are progressively rising, and the Kopili River is now flowing above the danger level.

Heavy rains also hit neighbouring states like as Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, causing major floods.
