Assam: Kamrup’s Development Drive Reviewed: Schemes Under Scanner
Amingaon – The wheels of progress for Kamrup district’s myriad development schemes were thoroughly scrutinised today at the monthly District Development Committee meeting. Chaired by District Development Commissioner Sushanta Kumar Dutta, the session, held at the conference hall of the Integrated Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Amingaon, saw officials present detailed reports on the ground reality of various government initiatives.
Key flagship programmes under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), and the ambitious Amrit Sarovar Mission, faced a comprehensive review. The Public Health Engineering Department also provided updates on the crucial Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), highlighting both achievements and ongoing challenges.
The agricultural sector’s vital schemes, including PM-KISAN, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, were evaluated, with discussions centred on implementation hurdles and timelines for completion.
Further deliberations encompassed development initiatives spanning a broad spectrum of departments. The Social Welfare Department outlined progress on the construction of model Anganwadi centres, while the Education, Public Works (Buildings and Roads), Soil Conservation, Fisheries, District Industries and Commerce Centre, Health and Family Welfare, Urban Development, Food and Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs departments presented their respective infrastructure and development plans.
The Forest Department apprised the committee of their efforts to establish plant nurseries across Kamrup, a pivotal step in the ongoing Amrit Vriksh Andolan campaign. Adding a unique flavour to the discussions, the Fisheries Department unveiled its plans to promote aqua-tourism within the district, aiming to blend sustainable livelihood generation with tourism development.
Progress under the Assam Adarsha Gram Yojana was also a significant point of discussion, with specific focus on block-wise initiatives. The meeting witnessed the active participation of Siddhartha Goswami, Chief Executive Officer of the Kamrup Zila Parishad, alongside a host of senior officers from all concerned line departments, all keen to present their status reports and provide crucial implementation updates.
