Assam: Kamtapur Autonomous Council Chief Accused of Salary Scam and Assault

Guwahati, 12th June: Gokul Barman, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Kamtapur Autonomous Council (KAC), faces serious allegations of embezzling funds through the creation of fake employees. These accusations include misappropriating salaries intended for personal assistants, drivers, and class IV employees.

A list containing 20 employees, many of whom are suspected to be non-existent, has emerged, highlighting the extent of the alleged fraud. Speaking to the media, a KAC-employed driver stated, “We have been working in the KAC from the beginning and have been paid Rs 5000 every month from the office fund, but now our names are missing from the state government’s salary distribution list.” The driver further claimed that some names on the list are fabricated, while long-time employees have been excluded.

This scandal is not the first controversy surrounding Gokul Barman. He has also been accused of assaulting a woman constable of the Assam Police. Reports suggest that Barman, who is married, was involved in an altercation with the constable in Dibrugarh, resulting in her hospitalization. The constable, originally from Boitamari in Bongaigaon district, allegedly had an illicit relationship with Barman.

In response to the assault allegations, Gokul Barman denied any involvement via social media. However, Hiteshwar Barman, President of the Kamtapur Autonomous Council, has called for a formal investigation into both the salary scam and the assault incident.

The unfolding scandals have prompted demands for a thorough inquiry to uncover the truth and ensure accountability within the Kamtapur Autonomous Council.
