Assam: Kanishaile Sharifnagar Panchayat Office Faces Backlash Over Late Openings and Absenteeism
Guwahati, August 31, 2024 — The Kanishaile Sharifnagar Panchayat office near Karimganj has come under fire for remaining closed until 12 noon daily, despite directives from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mandating punctuality in government offices. This persistent delay has caused significant inconvenience to residents, particularly those traveling from remote areas.
The office, which serves as a vital hub for public services, has consistently failed to open on time, forcing many visitors to leave without receiving the assistance they need. Complaints from local residents reveal frequent absences of staff members, including the Secretary of the Kanishaile Sharifnagar GP office, despite numerous grievances being lodged.
Residents have expressed frustration over the ongoing issue, calling for immediate action to ensure the office is accessible during standard working hours. The persistent neglect by some employees has only exacerbated the situation, undermining public trust and hindering access to essential services.
The government’s inability to enforce punctuality and accountability in this office raises concerns about the broader challenges in ensuring efficient public service delivery across the region.
