Assam: Karbi Anglong Chief Demands Eviction of Illegal Settlements

Howraghat, Karbi Anglong: The Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, has issued a stern warning against illegal settlements in the Karbi Anglong district, allegedly established by individuals from Manipur’s Kuki community.

Speaking at a land patta distribution ceremony in Howraghat, Ronghang expressed deep concern over the influx of nearly 1,000 individuals from the Kuki community, with approximately 500 families reportedly encroaching upon the pristine Karbi hills. He demanded immediate eviction of these illegal settlements, urging swift and decisive action to address the growing encroachment.

The recent surge in violence in Manipur has raised fears of a potential mass influx of people into Karbi Anglong, further exacerbating the situation. Ronghang’s appeal underscores the urgency of addressing this issue and safeguarding the region’s delicate ecological balance and socio-cultural fabric.
