Assam: Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) Awarded Prestigious Cultures of Resistance (COR) 2023 Award
Guwahati, 1st November: The legendary Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) has been honored with the prestigious Cultures of Resistance (COR) 2023 Award, marking the first time that an ethnic festival from the Northeast region has received this recognition. The COR Award, initiated by Brazilian filmmaker and activist Iara Lee, acknowledges and supports individuals and organizations dedicated to societal transformation and nonviolent resistance.
KYF is recognized for its commitment to promoting cultural diversity, human rights, and environmental sustainability, especially in empowering indigenous youth and preserving cultural heritage. The award includes a one-time grant of US $1,000 and serves as an inspiration for global cultural pride and social engagement.
The festival’s organizers expressed their gratitude to Iara Lee and the Cultures of Resistance Network for their invaluable support, highlighting the achievement as a tribute to the founding fathers of KYF and a beacon of inspiration for youth engagement, indigenous art, and social causes.
