Assam: Karimganj District Renamed as Sribhumi, Signboards Begin Transition
Karimganj – The Karimganj district of Assam has been officially renamed as Sribhumi, with the state secretariat issuing a directive on November 21 to formalize the change.
The renaming process is underway, with government offices in the district headquarters leading the transition. The Karimganj municipality was the first to unveil its updated signage, doing so in a ceremonial event presided over by District Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi. The ceremony showcased the region’s cultural heritage through vibrant traditional performances.
Following this, signboards at key administrative offices, including those of the District Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, were replaced to reflect the district’s new identity. District Commissioner Dwivedi urged all establishments across Sribhumi to expedite the process and update their signage promptly.
The renaming marks a significant step for the district, intertwining its administrative identity with cultural and historical significance as it transitions into a new chapter under the name Sribhumi.
