Assam: Kaziranga National Park Launches Training Program for Safari Drivers and Mahouts
Guwahati, 24th September: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve authorities have initiated a program to enhance visitor safety and experience by training Gypsy safari drivers and mahouts. Funded in collaboration with the Assam Skill Development Mission, the program aims to provide refresher training to approximately 700 participants.
Field Director Sonali Ghosh emphasized that the training focuses on improving wildlife interpretation and visitor interaction, fostering a deeper understanding of conservation efforts among tourists. The first three batches have been successfully completed, with certificates, badges, uniforms, and ID cards awarded to participants by esteemed guests.
Assam Minister for PHE, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship, and Tourism, Jayanta Malla Baruah, highlighted the importance of training for key stakeholders in sustainable wildlife tourism management. He noted that local communities play a vital role in preserving biodiversity and ensuring visitor safety.
So far, three batches, each consisting of 100 participants, have received training from experienced resource persons from various organizations, including the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve authority. Notable trainers included retired forest service personnel and representatives from wildlife organizations.
The program began with a Rhino Tableau Rally aimed at promoting rhino conservation, attracting participation from local communities, gypsy safari associations, forest staff, NGOs, and wildlife enthusiasts. This initiative underscores the commitment to enhancing skills and capacities within the region’s wildlife tourism sector.
