Assam: Key Accused in Nalbari Double Murder Case Captured in West Bengal
Guwahati, 28th February: Jagadish Haloi, the prime suspect in the shocking double murder case that shook the Barsarkuchi locality in Assam’s Nalbari district, has been apprehended in Alipurduar, West Bengal.
Haloi’s arrest comes over nine days after the gruesome incident, where his wife, Kabita, and son, Hrishikesh, were found dead under mysterious circumstances at their home on February 19, coinciding with Hrishikesh’s 15th birthday.
Addressing the media, Arif Ahmed, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), stated, “On February 20, we received an FIR at Nalbari police station alleging that Jagadish Haloi had murdered his wife Kabita Haloi and son Hrishikesh Kashyap. We registered a case against Nalbari PS 65/24 under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). During the course of the inquiry, we discovered that the alleged culprit fled his residence after committing the crime. Subsequently, we tracked him down in Alipurduar, West Bengal. A police team from Nalbari PS, led by SI Manoj Kumar Das, along with the assistance of West Bengal police, apprehended Jagadish and brought him to Nalbari PS on Tuesday evening.”
In the latest development, it has been revealed that during police interrogation, the accused purportedly confessed to the crime. He claimed to have committed the act in response to his son’s hyperactivity, who was also autistic, according to police sources.
