Assam: KLO-KN Militant Apprehended in Ransom Case
Guwahati, 29th January: Gauripur Police arrested Kanak Adhikary on Sunday evening, a member of the Koch Nationalism faction within the banned armed militant group Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO-KN). Police sources reveal that Adhikary, residing in Ramfalbil village, Kokrajhar district, was caught red-handed while accepting ransom money from an undisclosed Gauripur-based businessman, kept confidential for security reasons.
Reports suggest that a cohort of KLO-KN militants has been extorting money from various Gauripur businessmen, operating from nearby forest areas falling within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The KLO-KN, a splinter group of the KLO, advocates for a separate Kamatapur state encompassing regions of Assam and West Bengal. In opposition to peace talks between the KLO and the central government, the KLO-KN has vowed to persist in its armed struggle.
Police sources mention ongoing interrogations of Kanak Adhikary to extract more information about his associates and their activities. Furthermore, they announce planned raids on suspected hideouts of KLO-KN militants in the area. Adhikary faces charges under various legal provisions.
