Assam: KMSS Threatens Major Protest if General Secretary Isn’t Released
Guwahati, 20th January: The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has issued a threat to stage a significant demonstration against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s events in Assam if the state police do not release the organization’s general secretary, Bidyut Saikia, within the next three hours.
Bidyut Saikia, a prominent peasant leader, was reportedly detained by Furkating police on the orders of Officer in Charge Kaustav Moni Gogoi in the early hours of Saturday. The reason for Saikia’s apprehension has not been officially disclosed by the state police.
Raijor Dal president and former KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi criticized the state government, directing his message to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, questioning, “Mr. Chief Minister, What is this?”
In addition to Bidyut Saikia, another KMSS member, Akash Doley, has also been reportedly detained by the state police. KMSS members claim that the BJP fears the KMSS leadership, attributing the detention of peasant leaders to baseless reasons.
