Assam: Kokrajhar Celebrates Vijay Divas with Indian Army-Led Bike Rally
Assam: Kokrajhar came alive on Monday as the Indian Army’s 135 ATF organized a grand bike rally to celebrate Vijay Divas, paying homage to the heroes of the 1971 Indo-Pak War that led to the creation of Bangladesh. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over a hundred riders representing eight different biking clubs.
The rally, which began at Green Field in Bodofa Nwgwr, was flagged off by local MLA Lawrence Islary. Riders traversed through the streets of Kokrajhar, spreading awareness about the significance of the day and saluting the courage and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces.
Vijay Divas, observed every year on December 16, commemorates India’s decisive victory over Pakistan in 1971. This historic win, achieved with the collaboration of the Mukti Bahini (Bangladeshi freedom fighters), resulted in the surrender of over 90,000 Pakistani soldiers and the liberation of East Pakistan, now known as Bangladesh, following a 13-day war.
The 2024 celebrations marked the 53rd anniversary of this historic event, reinforcing the message of national unity and remembrance of the extraordinary valor that shaped the region’s history. The rally underscored the importance of honoring the sacrifices of the armed forces while inspiring the younger generation to carry forward the legacy of patriotism and courage.
