Assam: Kokrajhar Gears Up for Mammoth ABSU Conference Under Tight Security Scrutiny
Guwahati: Assam’s top cop, Director General of Police Harmeet Singh, descended upon Kokrajhar this Sunday, initiating a rigorous security evaluation ahead of the All Bodo Students’ Union’s (ABSU) 57th annual conference.
The focus of his inspection was the Bodofa Playground in Dotma, the designated venue for the four-day event commencing on March 13th.
The DGP’s visit was particularly significant due to the confirmed presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, slated to grace the open session on March 16th as the chief guest. Intelligence reports suggest Shah’s address is expected to draw a crowd exceeding two hundred thousand individuals, necessitating an elaborate security apparatus.
Adding to the high-profile nature of the conference, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is also scheduled to participate in a specialized program on March 14th, aimed at fostering youth engagement within the Bodoland region.
To streamline security protocols and ensure a cohesive approach, DGP Singh convened a high-level security coordination meeting. This gathering brought together key stakeholders, including members of the organizing committee, ABSU leadership, district administrative officials, and senior police personnel. The meeting aimed to synchronize efforts and address potential security vulnerabilities.
Meanwhile, at Bodofa Playground, a flurry of activity signaled the advanced stage of preparations. Large-scale infrastructure development, designed to accommodate the anticipated influx of attendees, was visibly underway. The construction of the main event pandal was proceeding rapidly, reflecting the urgency and scale of the preparations.
In an official statement, ABSU President Dipen Boro conveyed the organization’s readiness to host a successful conference. He emphasized that the delegate session would serve as a platform for critical discussions, notably centered on the advancement of education and the meticulous execution of the Bodo Territorial Region (BTR) Peace Agreement.
