Assam: Labourers Fall Ill After Boat Accident on Brahmaputra River
Guwahati: A group of labourers have fallen sick after a mechanised boat carrying geobags was involved in an accident near Fakirganj in Assam’s Dhubri district on the Brahmaputra River.
The boat, which was transporting the bags used for erosion and flood control, reportedly capsized or sustained damage during transit.
Following the incident, several workers experienced symptoms including dizziness, nausea, and breathing difficulties.
Preliminary reports suggest that the labourers may have been exposed to contaminated materials or hazardous conditions related to the cargo or the water.
Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident and are closely monitoring the health of those affected. Steps are being taken to enhance safety protocols for similar operations along the river, with the aim of preventing such incidents in the future.
The authorities’ prompt response aims to ensure the well-being of the labourers and improve safety standards in the region.
