Assam: Lachit Borphukan Statue Unveiled in Jamugurihat Amid Grand Celebrations
Assam: A majestic 8-foot-tall statue of legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, weighing 5 quintals, was transported from Sootea to Jamugurihat in a vibrant procession, marked by enthusiasm and excitement.
The statue, crafted by renowned sculptor Manjit Hazarika, was installed in front of the Kanyaka Marketing Society at Shantipur in Jamugurihat on Lachit Divas, following traditional and auspicious rituals.
The monumental effort was spearheaded by young entrepreneur Neeraj Nishim Hazarika. The procession featured decorated vehicles, elephants, and floral arrangements, with participants donning traditional Assamese attire. Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika presided over the installation ceremony, which drew a massive crowd.
MLA Hazarika praised Neeraj Nishim Hazarika’s dedication, highlighting Lachit’s patriotism and valor as symbols of Assamese courage. Lachit Borphukan, known for leading the Ahom Army to victory against the Mughal forces in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671, embodies the spirit of unity and pride in Assamese heritage.
