Assam: Lakhimpur Police Nab Suspect in Fraudulent Attempt Targeting Banikanta Kakoti Scooty Award Scheme

Guwahati, 19th September: Lakhimpur police have arrested an individual suspected of attempting to defraud students awarded scooters under the Banikanta Kakoti Scooty Award scheme. The suspect allegedly tried to extort money by falsely demanding registration and insurance fees from beneficiaries.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu addressed the situation, emphasizing that the Scooty Award scheme is completely free of charge. “I want to clarify that the Scooty Award scheme is entirely free, with no charges or fees involved,” Pegu stated.

He urged students to stay vigilant and disregard any communication from unknown sources regarding the scheme, advising them not to respond to unsolicited calls or messages. Pegu also encouraged recipients to report any suspicious payment requests to the Assam Police immediately.

Authorities are continuing to investigate whether additional individuals were involved in the fraudulent activities.
