Assam: Lance Naik of Hailakandi Police Station Arrested While Accepting Bribe
Guwahati, 6th February: In an ongoing crackdown on corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam apprehended Lance Naik Gouidur Rahman Barbhuyan of Hailakandi Police Station for bribery.
The accused officer was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 6000 at the police station, allegedly in exchange for favorable treatment in a criminal case.
Acting on a tip-off, the vigilance team led by the CM laid a trap, resulting in the officer’s arrest and subsequent custody.
Legal proceedings against the officer have commenced.
In a separate incident, Intaz Mondal, the in-charge Deputy CEO of Zilla Parishad in South Salmara Mankachar district, and the in-charge BDO of Fekamari, were arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), Assam, on February 5th.
Mondal was apprehended while accepting a bribe from a contractor in his office at the Zilla Parishad premises.
The bribe was allegedly solicited for clearing bills related to projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a central government initiative aimed at providing piped water supply to rural households.
