Guwahati, August 25 — In a shocking turn of events, a late-night altercation between two brothers in Golaghat ended in a fatal outcome on Sunday, August 24, when one allegedly stabbed the other to death. The tragic incident occurred at the residence of the victim, Prabin Saikia, following what is believed to have been a heated domestic dispute.
The accused, identified as Dhairjya Saikia, reportedly attacked his brother while Prabin was preparing to retire for the night after dinner. Despite immediate attempts to save him, including rushing him to a nearby hospital, Prabin succumbed to the severe injuries he sustained during the attack.
Local residents have expressed their shock and sadness over the incident, with one neighbor commenting on the brothers’ relationship. “They may have quarreled over a domestic issue,” said the neighbor. “Prabin could have been severely injured, possibly with a blow to his chest. Although they lived separately, their homes were close to each other. The incident took place at Prabin’s house last night.”
Authorities have begun a preliminary investigation, which suggests that other family members may have played a role in escalating the situation, potentially inciting Dhairjya to commit the crime. Law enforcement officials have since cordoned off the crime scene and are actively searching for the absconding suspect.
As the investigation unfolds, the village remains tense, with residents and authorities alike grappling with the tragic events that have shaken their community.
