Assam Launches ASSIST: A ₹2,529 Crore Healthcare Revolution

Guwahati: Assam has embarked on a historic healthcare transformation with the launch of the Assam State Secondary Healthcare Initiative for Service Delivery Transformation (ASSIST). This ambitious ₹2,529 crore project aims to revolutionize healthcare access and quality across the state.

  • 10 New District Hospitals: The initiative will see the construction of 10 new district hospitals, adding 1,150 beds to the state’s healthcare infrastructure. These hospitals will be located in:
    • Kaliabor
    • Dudhnoi
    • Sarukhetri
    • Kaliapani
    • Narayanpur
    • Azara
    • Lakhipur
    • Dibrugarh
    • Abhayapuri
    • Bajali
  • Upgrading Existing Facilities: In addition to new hospitals, 25 existing healthcare facilities will undergo significant redevelopment to enhance their capacity and service delivery.

The ASSIST scheme is designed to:

  • Improve Administrative Efficiency: Streamline operations at the state, district, and facility levels.
  • Expand Healthcare Access: Ensure essential services reach underserved areas through redeveloped facilities.
  • Upgrade Infrastructure: Modernize healthcare facilities to meet global standards and improve secondary care delivery.

“Through the ASSIST scheme, we are not only building new hospitals but also creating a robust healthcare system that caters to the needs of every Assamese. This transformative initiative will bridge gaps in healthcare infrastructure and significantly improve service delivery, especially in rural and semi-urban areas,” said the Chief Minister of Assam.
