Assam Launches Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan to Empower Rural Women Entrepreneurs

Guwahati, 8th January: The Assam government has taken a significant stride toward empowering rural women entrepreneurs by introducing the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan. Implemented by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), this initiative aims to provide financial support to rural women entrepreneurs, fostering self-reliance and economic independence.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the remarkable achievement of the Asomi Saras mela in Guwahati, stating, “This is a phenomenal achievement and reflects the potential of our women entrepreneurs. To augment this potential, we are launching the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan, where we intend to financially support 40 lakh women members of Self Help Groups.”

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan complements other efforts by the Assam government to support women’s empowerment. Schemes like the Swa-Kalita Scheme focus on aiding women’s self-help groups (SHGs) by providing financial assistance and training for income-generating activities. The Majoni Scheme offers financial aid to destitute widows in Assam, covering their basic needs.

In addition to these initiatives, the Swanirbhar Naari scheme, launched by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, targets weavers in Assam, aiming to make them self-sufficient.

These programs underscore the Assam government’s commitment to enhancing the role of women in the state’s economy, ensuring they have the necessary resources to thrive as entrepreneurs. The Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan represents a concrete step toward building a more inclusive and prosperous society by supporting women in rural areas.
