Assam Launches Orunodoi 3.0: Expanding Financial Aid to Disadvantaged Women
Guwahati, 19th September: The Assam government has unveiled the Orunodoi 3.0 scheme, a significant initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to economically disadvantaged women. Over the next few weeks, an additional 12 lakh beneficiaries will be added to India’s first state-led women-centric Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) program. By early 2025, the scheme aims to support 37 lakh women, providing each with a monthly financial aid of ₹1250.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Widows, unmarried women (above 45 years), divorced or deserted women
- Transgender individuals
- Persons with disabilities, as defined under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016
- Elderly or infirm women, including those in government-registered old age homes
- Women caring for disabled or elderly household members (60+ years)
- Women in households with members suffering from conditions such as HIV, Thalassemia, Haemophilia, Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy, or Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Women from homeless households
- Destitute women living on alms
- Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) women beneficiaries
- Women from households with a composite annual income of less than ₹2 lakh
Ineligibility:
- Politicians including MPs, MLAs, and their ex-counterparts
- Members of Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, and Autonomous Councils
- Professionals such as doctors, engineers, architects, and lawyers
- Teachers from all educational levels, including contractual or temporary
- Government employees, pensioners, and contractual staff
- Businesspersons paying income tax, landholders, and those owning motorized four-wheelers
- Beneficiaries already receiving financial support under similar state schemes
The Orunodoi 3.0 initiative represents a major step forward in Assam’s efforts to support women from vulnerable sections, promoting financial independence and social welfare.
