Assam: Lavadanguri Police Clash with Picnic Party in Kahitama Sparks Public Outrage

Assam: A heated altercation between the Lavadanguri police and a local picnic group in Kahitama village near Manah National Park has ignited widespread criticism after videos of the incident went viral on social media.

The clash occurred during a New Year’s Day celebration organized by locals near the park and quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident began as a misunderstanding between forest guards from the Kahitama forest office and the picnic group.

Acting on information provided by the forest guards, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge Bhavani Kant Deka arrived at the scene.

However, the situation spiraled out of control when the police allegedly assaulted members of the picnic party without seeking clarification.

The picnic group reportedly retaliated, resulting in a chaotic scuffle that was captured on video. The footage, which shows both parties involved in a heated exchange and physical altercation, has sparked outrage online.

The victims have appealed to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Director General of Police G Singh, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident. They are demanding accountability and appropriate action against the officers involved.

The viral video has drawn attention to the need for a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the clash, as well as measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
