Assam Leads in Empowering Women with Digipay Sakhi Initiative

Guwahati, 17th June: Assam has taken a significant stride forward with its Digipay Sakhi initiative, establishing itself as a leader in May. Spearheaded by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ASRLM), this initiative empowers women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to serve as Business Correspondents (BCs), delivering essential banking services in Gram Panchayats across the state.

In May alone, 3,106 DigiPay Sakhis from SHGs actively engaged under CSC E-Governance facilitated banking services in 2,698 Gram Panchayats. These services, including Aadhaar-enabled Payment Systems (AePS) and ATM/Debit card transactions, brought banking convenience directly to underserved households’ doorsteps.

The DigiPay Sakhis played a pivotal role in enabling cash withdrawals for Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) linked to various government schemes such as MGNREGA, PMAY, pensions, Orunodoi, and scholarships. Their contributions extended beyond banking to encompass Government to Citizen (G2C) and Business to Consumer (B2C) services, highlighting their integral role in community welfare.

This One GP One BC Sakhi model not only enhances financial inclusion but also empowers women economically, fostering a transformative impact across Assam’s rural landscape. The initiative underscores Assam’s commitment to leveraging digital solutions for inclusive growth and empowering its communities.
