Assam Lok Sabha Election Trends: BJP and Allies Lead in Majority of Constituencies

Guwahati, 4th June: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its coalition partners, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), are leading in nine out of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, according to the latest updates from election officials on Tuesday, May 4.

BJP Leads in Key Constituencies:

  • Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is leading in Dibrugarh.
  • Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa is ahead in Kaziranga.
  • MLA Ranjit Dutta is leading in Tezpur.
  • Sitting MP Pradan Baruah is ahead in Lakhimpur.
  • Bijuli Kalita Medhi is leading in Guwahati.
  • Dilip Saikia is ahead in Darrang-Udalguri.
  • Parimal Suklabaidya is leading in Silchar (SC).

NDA Partners’ Performance:

  • AGP’s MLA Phanibhushan Choudhury is leading in Barpeta.
  • UPPL’s Jayanta Basumatary is ahead in Kokrajhar.

These trends highlight a strong performance for the BJP and its allies, reinforcing their political influence in Assam.

Opposition Congress and Independent Candidate:

  • The Congress is leading in four constituencies, showcasing some level of continued support despite the ruling coalition’s dominance.
  • An independent candidate is leading in one constituency, introducing an element of unpredictability to the final outcomes.

Election Phases and Voter Turnout:

  • Polling in Assam was conducted across three phases on April 19, April 26, and May 7.
  • Voter turnout was notable with 78.25% in phase one, 81.17% in phase two, and 85.45% in phase three, out of a total of 2,43,01,960 registered voters.

The early trends in Assam’s Lok Sabha elections suggest a strong showing for the BJP and its coalition partners, leading in nine out of 14 constituencies. The Congress, while trailing overall, leads in four constituencies, indicating pockets of support. An independent candidate’s lead in one constituency adds to the election’s dynamic nature. These results, if sustained, will further consolidate the BJP’s and its allies’ influence in the region.
