Assam Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Summon Expected for Congress Leader’s Brother Over Alleged MCC Violation
Guwahati, 12th April: Ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Assam, Lakhimpur police are set to issue a summon to Dipen Borah, the brother of Congress leader Bhupen Borah. This action follows an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) due to carrying cash beyond the permitted limit during the election code of conduct period.
On April 10, Jintu Hazarika, the personal assistant to the President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Bhupen Borah, was apprehended by the Lakhimpur Flying Squad for carrying Rs. 5,30,000 in cash, along with ‘Nyay Guarantee Cards’ and foreign liquor bottles. Upon interrogation, it was disclosed that the cash allegedly belonged to Dipen Borah, the brother of APCC president Bhupen Borah.
If Dipen Borah can provide a substantial source for the money, it will be returned; otherwise, the case will proceed accordingly.
