Assam: Lot Mondal Arrested for Accepting Bribe

Guwahati, 7th February: In a significant crackdown on corruption, authorities from the anti-corruption department have apprehended a Lot Mandal of Naduar Revenue Circle in Assam.

According to the CM Vigilance cell, a complaint lodged at the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, accused Arafad Alom Bora, Lot Mandal of Naduar Revenue Circle, Sootea, District- Biswanath, of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 5,000 for name correction and updation in land records.

Refusing to succumb to bribery, the complainant sought legal recourse through the Directorate.

Acting swiftly, a team from the Directorate laid a trap on February 7, 2024, in the office of the Circle Officer, Naduar Revenue Circle. Arafad Alom Bora was apprehended red-handed in his office after accepting Rs. 2,000 as part of the demanded bribe. The tainted money was promptly seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Subsequently, a case was registered at the ACB Police Station on the same day under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Following the gathering of sufficient evidence, the accused public servant was arrested in connection with the case.

Legal proceedings are underway to ensure appropriate action is taken against the individual involved in corrupt practices.
