Assam: Luxury Car Used in Audacious Cattle Smuggling Attempt Foiled by Golakganj Police
In a display of ingenuity turned illicit, smugglers attempted to transport seven cows in a HONDA AMAZE vehicle, only to be thwarted by the swift action of the Golakganj police on National Highway 17.
Acting on a crucial tip, a dedicated police team under the leadership of Golakganj police station in-charge Debajit Kalita lay in wait in the Biratnagar Chariali area of Dhubri. Their vigilance was rewarded when the luxury sedan, bearing registration AS 03H 7675 and en route from West Bengal towards Gauripur, sped into their sights.
Ignoring clear signals to stop, the driver engaged in a perilous high-speed chase. The determined police pursued the vehicle, finally intercepting it in the North Raipur locality. Under the cover of darkness, the driver abandoned the smuggled cargo and fled, disappearing into the night.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the shocking reality: seven cows had been tightly packed inside the car. This incident underscores the evolving tactics employed by cattle smugglers, who have previously been known to conceal their illegal cargo under sacks of potatoes, within cartons, and even utilize modes of transport ranging from boats to banana tree coverings.
This successful interception highlights the relentless battle faced by law enforcement in their efforts to curb the persistent issue of cattle smuggling, despite increased security measures. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the absconding driver and to dismantle the wider network facilitating these illegal activities.
