Assam: Madrasa Allegedly Linked To Jihadi Outfits Demolished In Barpeta

Guwahati: The Barpeta district administration demolished a madrasa for allegedly linked to Jihadi activities on Monday.

The Barpeta district of Assam’s Shaikh Hind Mahmudul Hasan Jamiul Huda madrasa was destroyed by the local government.

The madrasa was situated in Barpeta’s Joshihatapara area. It was purportedly connected to groups that were outlawed, such as Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS).

It may be noted that a Bangladeshi national named Saiful Islam alias Harun Rashid alias Mohammad Suman, who had links to ABT, was behind the setting up of the madrasa in Barpeta in 2019.

He was taken into custody by Assam police last month as part of their increased search for Jihadi elements in the state.

The Barpeta SP Amitava Singha pointed up the madrasa’s connections to ABT in a letter he addressed to the district deputy commissioner’s office on Saturday.

According to the letter, the madrasa was erected on government property illegally.
