Assam: Madrasas Asked To Provide Info About Their Institutions To Govt
Guwahati: The state government of Assam has requested all information regarding the private madrasas in the state by December 1 of this year.
The Madrasas must provide the Secondary Education department of the state government with all relevant information by December 1st, including the location of the institution , the names of the professors, etc.
The deadline of December 1 was set during a meeting on Wednesday at the Assam Police Headquarters which was attended by DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Director of Secondary Education Mamata Hojai and representatives of five organisations including All Assam Tanzim Madaris Qawmiya, All Assam Talimi Taraqqi Board, Madrasa Education Board Al Hafiz and Adara Madaris Islamia which manages the private Madrasas in the state.
“Works of a portal is going on where the information of all the private Madrasas will be uploaded and the portal will launch soon,” Rajib Saikia, CPRO of Assam police said.
The Assam DGP, senior police officers, and representatives of the various organisations that manage the madrasas met earlier on September 4 and made a number of decisions, including making sure that no extremist elements would seek refuge in the madrasa under the guise of religious instruction.
The Assam DGP stated that police verification would be required for persons hired from outside the state to work as teachers at Madrasas during today’s meeting, according to the Assam Police CPRO.
“There should be at least a 3 km distance between two Madrasas and the enrollment of each Madrasa should be at least 100 students,” DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said.
The meeting also covered a number of other topics.
After teachers hired by certain private madrasas were detained by the Assam police this year on suspicion of having ties to Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and the Ansarullah Bangla Team, several private madrasas in the state came under scrutiny (ABT).
For their claimed connections to terrorist organisations, Assam police have detained 47 people, including several Madrasa teachers. They have also dismantled six AQIS/ABT modules in the state.
Additionally, the NIA received one case from the Assam Police.
