Assam: Majid Akhtar Arrested in Tinsukia Raid, Lethal Weapons Seized

Guwahati: In a swift and decisive operation that unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, Tinsukia Police apprehended controversial mobile phone trader Majid Akhtar, widely known as Miki. The surprise raid, conducted at his Hijuguri residence, culminated in Akhtar being taken into custody, sending ripples through the local community that had been vocal in its opposition to his alleged activities.

Police sources confirmed that during the intensive search, a special team from Tinsukia Police successfully recovered two lethal weapons from Akhtar’s premises. This development adds a serious dimension to the ongoing saga surrounding the trader, who has been embroiled in controversy for the better part of the past week.

Akhtar’s arrest follows a period of heightened public outcry and spirited protests at the TDA Central Plaza Market. Local organisations and residents had persistently accused him of illegally occupying government-allotted shops and operating his businesses without remitting due taxes. The mounting pressure from these groups, who had been demanding stringent action, appears to have spurred the authorities into this decisive crackdown on illegal activities.

Additional Superintendent of Police Mrinmoy Das affirmed the operation, stating that further investigations are actively underway. The community now awaits further details as the legal process against Majid Akhtar unfolds.
